What Is a Vedic Astrology Chart?
A Vedic astrology chart, also called a Jyotish birth chart or Kundli, maps the positions of the planets at the exact time and location of your birth using the sidereal zodiac.
Unlike a simple Sun-sign horoscope, your Vedic birth chart is a complete celestial map. It shows where the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu were placed across the 12 signs and houses. Your birth time determines the Ascendant, or Lagna, which sets the structure of the chart.
Jyotish adds further detail through the Moon’s Nakshatra and pada, planetary periods called Dashas, and divisional charts such as the Navamsa D9. Calculation method
How Your Vedic Chart Is Calculated
The calculator uses the date, time, and city you enter to establish the exact moment of birth. Historical daylight-saving changes are taken into account automatically. This matters because using today’s time-zone offset for an older birth can shift the chart by an hour.
Swiss Ephemeris locates the planets and Ascendant. Lahiri Ayanamsa places them in the sidereal zodiac. Rahu is shown as the true lunar node, with Ketu exactly opposite it. Houses use the whole-sign system: the rising sign forms the first house, and each following sign forms the next.
The Moon’s position determines its Nakshatra, pada, and the opening balance of Vimshottari Dasha. The Navamsa is calculated by dividing each sign into nine equal parts. These astronomical calculations do not rely on AI; the short reading that follows is based on the finished chart.

How to Read D1 and Navamsa D9
Start with the D1. The D9 refines the reading; it does not replace the birth chart or cancel a difficult placement.
The natal foundation
The D1 chart shows the sidereal signs and whole-sign houses occupied by the nine grahas. Read the Lagna first, then its ruler, the Moon, and the planets that occupy angular or otherwise important houses. This is the main chart for character, circumstances, and the areas of life receiving the strongest emphasis.
Strength as it matures
The Navamsa divides every sign into nine parts of 3°20′. Jyotish uses it to examine planetary strength, dharma, and marriage. A planet’s D9 sign can support or complicate what it promises in D1, but the two charts must be read together. Birth-time accuracy matters more here because the D9 Ascendant changes quickly.

Two ways of locating the zodiac
Vedic Astrology vs Western Astrology
Both traditions study the planets from your moment of birth, but they use different reference systems and emphasize different techniques. Vedic astrology, or Jyotish, commonly uses the sidereal zodiac, which aligns signs with stellar positions. Most Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, anchored to the seasons.
Because of this roughly 24-degree difference, many planets appear one sign earlier in a Vedic chart. Neither chart is simply a translation of the other: Nakshatras, Dashas, and divisional charts also create a distinct interpretive structure.

Begin with the Lagna and its ruling planet. Together they describe the chart’s basic orientation and connect the first house to another part of the horoscope. Next, read the Moon sign and Nakshatra for the habits of the mind. Only then move through the planets by sign and house.
After the D1 is clear, check the current Mahadasha and Antardasha to see which planets are active now. Finish with the D9 to assess how key placements develop with time. This order keeps one striking placement from being mistaken for the whole chart.
